In Gratitude

This post isn’t going to be specifically about our Norway travels, but I wouldn’t feel entirely right continuing to document this amazing experience without taking a moment to pause and give thanks to the reason my family is able to do this in the first place.

My grandmother passed away earlier this year after a long and full life of joyful conversations, an unwavering love of family, and a lifelong appreciation of world travel. She came of age in a time period when modest and ordinary work could furnish you with the opportunity to travel and live abroad in ways that are no longer reflected in contemporary times, and she and her husband took full advantage.

Thanks to parting gifts to her children and other descendants, my parents and I have been able to embark on this trip of a lifetime–one I am well aware I may never match again. As we wind through this beautiful country, we take time to reflect on how happy she would be that she was able to give us this experience, and how grateful we are in return that she and my grandfather made so many decisions with our future interests in mind. Both of them were truly remarkable people, and all who knew them were lucky to have had the acquaintance.

This blog and the memories it holds are for you, Boo Boo. Tusen takk for alt.

  1. How lucky we were to have such extraordinary parents and grandparents. They were going to meet us in Norway, once upon a time, Steffen. But then we learned that a little bundle of joy would be coming and we had to cancel our plans. Let’s consider them along for the journey now.
